    by Nicole Parry | Aug 29, 2012

The Mining Lands Viewer has been replaced by two new ArcGIS Server / Geocortex Essentials web mapping applications:

In order to aid users in the transition to the new applications the old IMS/IMF application for the Mining Lands Viewer (http://maps.gov.yk.ca/imf.jsp?site=miningLands) will be left on until Friday August 31, 2012.  It will no longer be available after this date.

  • Web Mapping: new Yukon Lands Map Viewer

    by Nicole Parry | Aug 29, 2012

A new Yukon Lands Viewer was released on August 13, 2012. Please take a look. http://mapservices.gov.yk.ca/Lands/

Lands and Mining have been separated. Mining has their own http://mapservices.gov.yk.ca/Mining/. The Yukon Lands Viewer is aimed at Agriculture, Land Planning and Land Management partners and clients.

I think you will find the new Yukon Lands Viewer much more functional than the old Mining Lands Viewer. Imagery is viewable to 1:1,280 scale and the viewer accesses the newest imagery available. This one has text for rivers and lakes, better measure and drawing tools and much more.

    Comments and questions welcome. Enjoy!

  • Imagery: Changes to Image Services

    by Nicole Parry | Jun 28, 2012

We’ve been experiencing resource limitations when serving both the Map Services and Image Services from the same machine. The ESRI recommended limit for an 8 core server is approximately 20 services. We currently have over 50 Image Services alone on AGISPROD.  Therefore, to improve speed and to reduce instability issues for both the web applications and data services, we have added several new machines to spread out the load.

All Image Services have been moved from AGISPROD to ISERVER. I have updated the data sources in the .lyr files (here: \\csw10prod\layerfiles\imagery\) to reflect this change.  The current load is causing daily (sometimes hourly) issues that require constant attention, therefore I will be stopping the services on AGISPROD over the next couple of days. If your project is connected to image services from AGISPROD, these links will be broken. You can repair any of these connections by pointing to the Imagery layerfiles here: \\csw10prod\layerfiles\imagery\.

    Important Notes:

    • The Southern Lakes GeoEye scenes were provided as both a single image service, and as dated strips. The services for each of individual strips were removed to further reduce the load. I will add some functionality that allows these to be mosaicked by date, as well as other attributes.
    • The Arctic Coast GeoEye was also provided in both dated scenes and as a complete mosaic. The dated scenes have been removed. I will add some functionality that allows these to be mosaicked by date, as well as other attributes.
    • The Faro, and Teslin FCIR (False Colour Infrared) were removed. If these are needed, please let me know.
    • The Whitehorse 2001, and 2006 orthophoto services were removed.  I will add some functionality that allows these to be mosaicked by date, as well as other attributes.
    • Over the coming months I would like to further reduce the number of services to about 5. There will likely be:
      • Internal High Resolution
      • Internal Medium Resolution
      • Public High Resolution
      • Public Medium Resolution
      • Public Low Resolution

Please let me know if you have any questions please contact Geomatics Yukon.

  • CSW: SDE migration scheduled for May 14th, 2012

    by Ryan Gould | May 04, 2012

We have confirmed a target date for our CSW SDE architecture migration project release.  The new SDE server release day is planned for Monday May 14th.  This will be the day that the new SDE servers are officially available and the old SDE servers will no longer be updated.

    New software requirements:

    • ArcGIS Desktop Version 10 Service Pack 4
    • Oracle Run-time Client 11g
    • Both ArcGIS Desktop and the oracle client will need to be configured for our servers.

All Sky data have been migrated over to CSW. New CSW layers have been loaded.  This data was released as it was available. We will be sending a summary of all the data changes related to this migration prior to May 14th.
